The Art and Jewelry of Ancient Ecuador: the La Tolita Culture – 1988

Situated between Central America and the Central Andes, the territory that is now the country of Ecuador was influenced in the past by both neighboring cultural areas, but also developed its own cultural traditions. This exhibit introduced the La Tolita culture, developed by the inhabitants of the oldest settlement in the region. It included the culture’s characteristic art forms representing the human body. The exhibit was based upon a collection loaned from the Museum of the Banco Central del Ecuador.
