This exhibit on the art of the Mapuche people was another in the Museum’s series on Chile’s aboriginal peoples, and coincided with the donation of a private collection of artifacts. The exhibit’s ceramic, stone, textile and silver objects illustrated the development of the Mapuche culture from pre-historic times to the present, with special attention paid to economic, political and ideological aspects. The display also emphasized the continued importance of Mapuche institutions, despite their erosion due to contact with the larger society.
