This exhibit was mounted in cooperation with the Universidad Católica del Norte’s Gustavo Le Paige Archeological Museum, located in San Pedro de Atacama. Through a carefully selected collection of grave goods from that region, the exhibit offered an overview of more than two thousand years of cultural development among the peoples that inhabited the desert oases surrounding the Atacama salt flat. Special attention was given to the fine, elaborately decorated wooden carvings on display, most of which were used in the ritual consumption of hallucinogenic substances.
