With the collaboration of Peru’s National Institute of Culture, Chile played host to this major collection of artifacts, which included clothing, gold objects and other items from some of the most prominent cultures of pre-Hispanic Peru. The objects were explored not only as conspicuous expressions of wealth and opulence, but as a testimony to the social, economic and religious complexity of these cultures. The news items and reports on this exhibit produced a veritable gold rush among Santiago residents, who flocked to see it.
