Whistle
This ceramic instrument is an artifact of the Arica culture, which inhabited the northern coast of modern-day Chile between 1000 and 1532 CE. Comparison with other pieces suggests that it belongs to the Faldas del Morro Period.
It is a double ocarina, which means that, when played, it produces two slightly out of key sounds at the same time. This generates a forceful, strident, dissonant sound with tremolos (the sound varies over time). Half of the piece is wrapped with thread, forming bands in two colors.
Dimensions: 190 mm high x 600 mm long x 260 mm wide (approx 7” x 23” x 10”).
