Mezcala is a type of small very stylized stone sculpture that developed in the state of Guerrero around 500 AD, where they are found as grave offerings. There are axes in human shapes, temple models and animal effigies. It was a wide spread and long lasting sculpting style in western Mexico, since certain Mezcala technical features, including some of its favorite subjects, appear in early Olmec and later in Teotihuacán stonework.
