The Festival of The Images in The Andes
What stories did they tell?
In the Andes, stories are painted, sculpted, sung, and danced. One such dance is the Wiraqocha, named after the deity who shaped the world and carved men and women out of stone along with their costumes, songs, plants, and animals. Some objects tell the stories of how the world was created, who the ancestors of the Inka authorities were, and who conquered which territories, formed alliances and defeated powerful armies. Narrating through painting, sculpting, singing and dancing continued when the Europeans imposed the Catholic religion. Today, Andean societies use similar methods to show their understanding of this religion and how they incorporate it into their lives.
