The art of being Diaguita

Several ceramic styles coexisted in the Norte Chico, representing different modes of “being Diaguita”. One of these was the Fourth Style.

The Fourth Style was present from the Elqui Valley to the Choapa, and was named for the singularity of its designs and color arrangements within the visual universe of Diaguita ceramics. While this style retains the three base colors and same ceramic forms, its motifs are limited to black stepped and hooked designs, outlined in white on a red background.
