Ceramic and pigments

The first ceramic pieces included jugs, bowls and cups of rough manufacture, with smoothed or polished surfaces and occasionally with molded or incised decorations.

The Taira paintings were made with iron oxide or hematite crushed to powder on grinding stones and probably mixed on stone slab palettes.
