Headband: Turban III

This long, narrow braided band presents a series of eight intertwined serpents with three-dimensional heads and bodies decorated with waves or ‘x’s similar to the markings found on real-life snakes. Bands like these ones were wound around the head to appear like hair extensions, pointing to the symbolic relationship that existed in the Andean region between serpents and human hair.
